Considering splurging on that viral leopard print sweater? Today I’m sharing my honest Balzac Paris Idole Cardigan review.
If the ads on your social media are anything like mine, it’s a mix of dog products, how to make outfits with varying styles of denim, and French fashion. For months, I saw ads for ruffle collared shirts and a leopard sweater with stripes. When I finally decided to make the leopard sweater mine, I discovered the brand behind it: Balzac Paris. The sustainable French fashion brand is the maker of the viral Idole Cardigan and if you looking for an honest review, today’s post is for you.

My Honest Balzac Paris Idole Cardigan Review
First things first – the Balzac Paris Idole Cardigan comes in blue, red, and plain leopard and retails for $340.

First Impression
The shipping was surprisingly fast. I ordered the cardigan and it shipped the same day. The only delay was at customs in the U.S. When it arrived, the sweater definitely had that Parisian-chic vibe the brand aims for. The leopard pattern combined with the crisp navy color gives it personality, but not in a way that feels loud or costume-y and definitely not cheap. The knit feels substantial and clearly isn’t some fast-fashion throw-away piece. I was reading online that Balzac designs often lean into responsible production and quality fabrics, and that was evident when I opened the package.
I will say the sweater had a distinct smell – not bad or good – when I opened the package, but I draped it over a hanger and it dissipated within a single day.

Sizing
I ordered an extra small. Balzac suggests sizing down if you’re between sizes, and that advice was accurate for me. I ordered my usual size (XS) and the sweater feels slightly oversized in a way that is stylish, but not oversized enough to swallow me, if that makes sense.

How It Feels
I’ll be honest, I’m picky when it comes to sweaters and I have no tolerance for anything itchy or annoying. The material makeup of the sweater is 25% alpaca, 25% merino, and 50% GRS certified recycled polyamide, so I was a little worried it might feel rough. It’s definitely not cotton or cashmere, but it doesn’t itch. It’s warm enough for cold days (it’s been in the single digits in DC this winter), but still breathable so it doesn’t feel stifling indoors or under a long jacket.

Is It Worth It?
Let me be perfectly honest – this isn’t a cheap sweater. It’s an investment, but one I was OK making, because it had been on my wishlist for so long. I’d bookmarked it, closed the tab, reopened it, and kept coming back to it, which is usually my sign that something isn’t just trendy, it’s something I’ll actually wear. And after owning it, I can say it feels like a piece that was meant to last. The knit has weight to it, the buttons feel substantial, I love the velvet lined button holes, and the pattern is bold without feeling gimmicky. It doesn’t sag after a few hours of wear, and it doesn’t look tired at the end of the day. Plus, when I put it on, it elevates even the simplest outfit. What ultimately justified the price for me is cost-per-wear. After having it for just one month, I’ve already worn if four times. All of this to say – yes, the Balzac Idole is definitely worth it in my opinion, because it’s very high quality, and a statement cardigan that still works with basics.
