That moment you’ve waited your whole life for…..and it came to me in a bathroom.
Hold up, what?
Let’s back up a little bit, shall we? To precisely Thursday morning when I woke up, rolled over, and realized it was the last day I had with Dane. He was leaving Friday morning and I was really pissy sad.
I worked a normal day and, at Dane’s suggestions, we were going to our favorite Thai restaurant for dinner AND a cute frozen yogurt place for dessert. How could I say no? So he tells me he will pick me up at 6PM and at 6:15 he was no where to be found and I was 4 seconds shy of gnawing off my forearm. Needless to say I was waiting at the door, coat on, purse in hand. At 6:30 one very flustered Dane rolls into my house and I’m fit to be tied, because how can you be mad at this face?
He’s yammering on and on to my parents and all I want to do is say CUT TO THE CHASE, DAMMIT, I’M STARVING! So he dashes up the stairs exclaiming he’s got something on his face that he needs me to examine under the light in the bathroom.
Uhhh, are you kidding me?
So I stomp up the stairs after him and as I round the corner I hear him turning on the shower. Listen up, homeboy, if you think now is the time to take a shower you are dead wrong…
As I walk into the bathroom he hits play on his phone and “You Are The Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne started playing and he said “I know you probably expected me to propose in Niagara Falls, but the truth is…I’ve been falling for you ever since the day I met you. There are three things in my life that are important–life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…and ever since I’ve been pursuing you, you’ve made me the happiest man alive…”
CAN YOU SAY SWOON? And before you ask, no I didn’t cry. I’m not a crier. Except for right after I accepted THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RING ever created (I MIGHT be a little biased), Dane told me we actually had reservations at one of the nicest restaurants in town AND he had changed his flight reservation from Friday to Saturday. So then I cried. The ugly, happy, over-the-moon-fill-your-entire-body-with-happiness cry.
And I haven’t stopped smiling since.
Dane: You are my dream come true. I have finally found the type of love that sets my soul on fire and makes me want to continually be a better person. When I am with you I am the happiest girl in the world. You are my happily ever after.
