Happy Tuesday! I’m so excited about today’s post, because this HydraFacial from Honolulu Spa + Wellness changed my life. Well, it changed my skin and my overall happiness with it and so maybe not my whole life, but definitely my outlook on my facial wellness 😉 But let’s back up a little bit…I don’t know exactly when it happened, but in the last 6 months or so, my skin has morphed into something I don’t recognize anymore. I’m not sure if it’s the tempo of my travel schedule, the cold then hot temperatures my body has been experiencing or just me knocking on 30 (GULP), but I went from having a mixed (oily and dry) overall skin type to oil and acne. WHY? In addition, a makeup mishap a few months back prompted me to take a bare-faced approach to my skin most days and to use Osmosis on the 3-4 days per month I wear makeup. It has worked very well  to be honest! So, after visiting with my mom (the skin guru) and talking with a friend, I decided it was time to hop back on the facial train. I got facials more consistently in my early 20s, but somewhere in the last 5 years that phased out. I did my research on what kind of treatment I wanted and spas in Honolulu. When I decided on a HydraFacial, I knew that Honolulu Spa + Wellness was the only placed I wanted to go. Today I’m sharing every detail of my HydraFacial, what I thought, if it hurt, my results and more!
My Experience Getting A HydraFacial At Honolulu Spa + Wellness
First things first – why did I choose a HydraFacial? HydraFacial advertises that it not only cleans the dead skin away and nourishes it, but it can also be used to target issues you might personally be having on your face. BINGO! I’ve always believed that skincare is not one size fits all, so just a standard facial isn’t going to work the same for every face. Makes sense, right? To be honest, I also really loved the idea of the vortex wand sucking all the impurities from my face (REAL TALK!) and that I would be able to see it when it was done. The way the HydraFacial works is in a series of steps, all using the sterilized wand that is hooked up to the machine.
HERE’S HOW A HYDRAFACIAL WORKS
CLEANSE + PEEL
This step uncovers a new layer of skin with gentle exfoliation and relaxing resurfacing.
EXTRACT + HYDRATE
This step removes debris from pores with painless suction using the want. Next, the skin is nourished with intense moisturizers that quench skin.
FUSE + PROTECT
The skin’s surface is saturated with antioxidants and peptides to maximize your glow.
Once I learned exactly what was going to happen, I was even more convinced it was the right service for me. It helps I’m in my best friend’s wedding this weekend, so getting that pre-wedding glow also sounded appealing 🙂 Honolulu Spa + Wellness makes it easy to book appointments online and you can even schedule a free consultation if you aren’t quite sure what would be best for your skin. I made my appointment with Grace (the owner) and not only is she a wealth of information, but so kind and willing to answer every single question you might have, as well as the “why” behind every step, skincare solution, etc. She’s also a fellow Army wife, which we got to chat about, and she told me all about her sweet family and how she got started as an esthetician.
MY HYDRAFACIAL BEFORE AND AFTER
And while it might not look like a ton happened there, this is the really disturbing part…look at what came out of my face! That container was empty at the start of this program….! Grace explained that everything in there is dead skin (you could see things floating that aren’t apparent in the photo), sebum and other facial impurities. The grossest part? This is what got sucked out AFTER the initial cleansing. I know – it’s gross.
When my HydraFacial treatment was done, Grace offered to do some light therapy since I am quite freckly and prone to sun damage. It didn’t hurt at all, but made a little shocking sound when it touched my skin. She explained that it boosts collagen production and I wasn’t going to say no to that!
Before I left, she warned me that I might feel extra thirsty for the rest of the day and perhaps the following day – that was totally normal and just my skin’s way of saying “Hey! We need to replenish that water supply!” And then she said that in a couple days if I notice my skin sloughing off a little bit, that’s normal, too. She also sent me home with some delicious samples, told me to keep using the skincare regimen I’ve been using and to check in with her once I’m back from my travels.
Honestly – that last part is a no-brainer. Almost a full week later and my skin looks and feels better than it has in months and I’ll definitely be lining up another treatment for the holidays. I know that I’m not getting any younger, that I’ve only got one skin and that I really need to take care of it just like I would take care of my heart, lungs, etc.
If you’re local to Honolulu and can get to Honolulu Spa + Wellness, I cannot recommend it enough! Questions? Just ask! Now, let’s chat – have you ever had a HydraFacial? Would you want to see what comes out of your face?
