TGIF. Honestly, the past few weeks have been a total blur for our family. Between Bill’s cancer diagnosis and just generally trying to figure out how we move forward, it seems like I’ve been living minute to minute. I finally felt like I could take a breath last Saturday. In any case, I wanted to come here (partially because this is what feels normal and I’m grasping to ANY SEMBLANCE OF NORMALCY right now) and share what I’ve loved the last couple weeks. Have a safe weekend, everyone!
5 Things I Love Friday
First things first – I would be remiss in not sharing how overwhelmed we’ve felt by the love and support of sweet Bill. As soon as I announced his cruel diagnosis, so many asked how they could help, which led us to setting up his GoFundMe account. I never dreamed that in just over a week we would be so close to our goal! Half of everything made goes directly to Bill’s treatment and the other half is being donated to a family facing the burden of cancer costs for their own dog.
We celebrated his 7th birthday on Tuesday with lots of new joys, a long trail walk and of course – doggy ice cream.
College Game Day was at Appalachian State last weekend and it made me so excited! If you’re not familiar, the fall football main stage typically hits large college towns like Ohio State or Notre Dame, but this NC mountain town was so freaking pumped to have them there. Their energy was fantastic! Part of the segment included gifting three students tuition and it made me so emotional. They won their match-up against Troy later that day, which probably felt like icing on the cake.
My mom has always told me “Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life”. As I get older, that has shifted into focus much more than ever before. And then last week I saw this article about your career being just 1/8 of your life.
Our new Berkey arrived! I’m so excited to put it to use, particularly since we’ve been having MORE WATER ISSUES here in Virginia. Don’t even get me started on the matter.
One of the things we were looking to most when we found out we would be spending a year in DC is the fall season. It feels (just slightly) like fall is here so I’m hopeful we can start doing typical fall activities like apple and pumpkin picking. There are some beautiful orchards and farms around NOVA, so here’s to hoping we can capitalize.
