Considering stocking up on Bath And Body Works new laundry detergent? This is my honest review after trying the Mahogany Teakwood scent!
There are fewer things in life I love more than the smell of fresh laundry. Or climbing into bed on fresh sheet night. Or honestly…just knowing that all my laundry is done! When I saw Bath & Body Works was debuting a new line of laundry detergent, I knew I wanted to try it. I’ve been using specialty detergent on my sheets and workout clothes for a little bit now and it’s definitely an everyday luxury I enjoy. It’s the little things, right?
Officially, the collection of laundry detergent debuts this fall, but they had a surprise pre-sale of it on their website for $11.95 so I ordered a bottle. Normally, I believe the bottles will be $19.95 each, but the early bird price was hard to resist. I got the Mahogany Teakwood scent, because that is my favorite of all their scents. Today I’m sharing all my thoughts in an honest review if you’re considering buying some Bath and Body Works laundry detergent for yourself!
My Honest Thoughts On Bath And Body Works Laundry Detergent
Because I splurge on specialty laundry detergent for some of my household items, the price didn’t phase me, but the shipping price did. It was $6.99 flat rate, no eligible coupons, so that is something to keep in mind. It brought my total to around $20 with tax for a 32oz bottle, but I feel like B&BW does so many sales, so just keep your eye out!
The shipping was pretty standard. I ordered on Monday and it arrived Friday. I hate to gauge shipping for companies based on Amazon, because I honestly don’t think same day or next day is a reality for most brands and companies.
The bottle was bigger than I thought it would be honestly, which was a nice perk. As soon as I opened it, I was shocked by how concentrated the smell was and got a little nervous that it might be too overpowering for my clothes. I was also surprised to see that it was white. I have no idea what I was expecting, but the Mahogany Teakwood scent is white!
On the bottle, it says to test a little bit of the detergent before washing, so I put some on a black pair of leggings and it was fine. For my first load, I washed dark workout clothes (leggings, shorts, tanks, bras, etc) that were all black, navy or dark grey. Even though the test patch didn’t impact my leggings, I decided against going full throttle on my sheets for my first load. I did the wash like normal.
My first impression when I opened my washer was “wow, I can definitely smell that scent!”
But now that my clothes have dried I would say that the scent is pretty faint and definitely not at all overpowering. In fact, I think I’d like just a tad more of it, though I’m not sure if it’s because I didn’t use enough or if it’s just very subtle.
**UPDATE: I decided to wash my sheets with this and given the subtle scent on my clothes I went full throttle and decided to do a full cap full for my sheets. I can honestly say that my sheets smell exactly like the scent and it’s very, very strong. So…my overall opinion is that half a cap full is just the right amount unless you truly want to have a perfumed experience. I can also add that it’s perfect for laundering sweaters that you don’t wash with regularity and will hold onto the scent.
Would I Buy the Bath and Body Works Laundry Detergent Again?
Yes, I would. I think it’s a nice “everyday upgrade” type of product that feels luxurious, especially as the winter months approach. I also think it would make a great gift. Sort of like a “treat yourself” type of thing, especially since the price may not be within everyone’s range.
I’m also kind of hoping that once BB&W debuts the full line this fall they will have other scents. My best advice would be to join their loyalty program, because that’s how I found out about the pop-up presale and it worked out!
