We splurged on a Sleep Number mattress after years of cycling through cheaper options. Sharing my honest opinion in this Sleep Number i10 review.
Let me make one thing very clear: Dane and I value sleep above most other things in life. Sleep, then food. What can I say, we are simple people. When we moved from Hawaii to Washington, DC, one of the casualties in our military move was our mattress. We had slept on it for several years, so it likely needed replaced sooner rather than later, but feeling snapped springs dig into our back night after night was the catalyst we needed to look into other options – especially since we were now on the mainland and had access to more options.
After thorough research, we opted for a Sleep Number Smart Bed. Specifically, the i10 model. This adjustable air-infused mattress promised a tailored sleep experience, and we were eager to put it to the test. After sleeping on it for more than a year, I decided it was time for a complete Sleep Number i10 review and what you should know before purchasing one. Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom for a new September 2024 update that includes my tips for if/when you have to move your Sleep Number bed!
Sleep Number i10 Smart Bed Review: Is It Worth The Price?
We were first introduced to the Sleep Number brand by my parents who have one in their guest room. It’s some of the best night sleep I’d had, so we decided to take a look into what the company had to offer. In order to choose our bed, we went to the Sleep Number store to test things out, because buying something like a mattress cannot just be done online in my opinion. I wanna sit on it, lay on it, move around. All the things!
So, first things first. Yes, this bed is expensive. It’s an investment. I won’t even try to talk around that. The Sleep Number Bed i10, with all its advanced features, comes with a price tag of $6,199. While this might be considered steep by some, the personalized comfort and sleep tracking technology could justify the cost for those prioritizing their sleep experience, and we looked at it as investing in our health. And to be even more transparent: No matter what Sleep Number bed you choose, they are all at the “investment pricing” level of sleep.
Features of the Sleep Number i10 + What I Love About It
The i10 Smart Bed is one of the most luxurious models that Sleep Number offers. In fact, when I found that out, I didn’t even want to test it out in the store, because I was afraid of loving it. Newsflash: I did.
Personalized Sleep Setting
One of the standout features of the Sleep Number Bed i10 is its ability to customize the firmness on each side of the mattress. This is a game-changer for couples with different sleep preferences like we had (Dane likes firm, I like squishy). The bed is controlled by an app on your phone, which allows you to adjust the firmness level from 0 to 100, ensuring that you find your perfect comfort zone.
Responsive SleepIQ Technology
The Sleep Number i10 comes equipped with SleepIQ technology, which tracks your sleep patterns, providing insights into your sleep quality and duration. It’s an excellent addition for those looking to optimize their sleep hygiene and again – all located in the app.
Temperature Balancing
Maintaining an optimal sleep temperature is crucial for a restful night and as a couple, our sleeping temperatures could not be more different, so this one is a huge plus for us! The i10 model incorporates a cooling memory foam layer, which helps regulate body temperature and ensures a comfortable sleep environment. It uses a combination of layers with four times more ceramic gel to rapidly draw heat away for temperature balancing comfort.
Dual Adjustability
Beyond firmness customization, the i10 model also allows for individual adjustments in the head and foot positions. This is ideal for those who enjoy reading or watching TV in bed, as you can find the perfect angle for relaxation. We opted out of this as it was an additional cost, but I thought it was a cool feature worth mentioning.
Is A Sleep Number Bed Worth It?
We have been sleeping on our Sleep Number mattress now for more than a year and I can honestly say it’s some of the best sleep of my life. I think it’s supportive and comfortable for both of us who have two wildly different opinions about what makes the perfect mattress. And truth be told – I’ve become one of those people who crave sleeping in my own bed. My sleep has improved from when we first bought it until now (I can tell by how the app tracks it) and I don’t toss and turn as much.
The main drawback of the Sleep Number Bed i10 is its high cost. While the features are impressive, the premium price might be a barrier for budget-conscious shoppers and trying to adjust/find your perfect sleep number may take some time. I highly recommend experimenting to find your ideal sleep configuration. I’ve read tons of Reddit threads about beds having a “trench” due to two air chambers in the bed (which is what controls how you can adjust your side individually), but I have never experienced this feeling in ours and neither has Dane.
So, do I think it’s worth it? For us, yes, absolutely. But considering this is such a large purchase I do recommend going in store to test them out to make sure it’s something you truly do love.
September 2024 Update: Since I wrote this post, we have since moved houses and had to transfer our Sleep Number bed. It wasn’t a military move, so we were responsible for making the bed moving happen (as opposed to professionals). I was NERVOUS about getting our bed set up in a new place and not ruining it in the process. It’s a BIG investment. I can tell you – it worked great! Sleep Number walked us through what to do over the phone and made sure we had what we needed to get everything deflated properly for hauling and then set up again in the new place. We did run into a slight issue connecting the bed to wifi so don’t be alarmed if you’re setting up your new bed and it takes a bit of troubleshooting – it will work itself out!
