We all know how addicting Pinterest can be and I’ll be damned if there’s one thing on there that I see more often than anything else it’s a good DIY craft. So, when I saw about 698 people pin the “Use Sharpie to decorate a mug” craft–I knew I had to try it and/or there would be some sort of “catch”.
A catch there was. That Sharpie business DOES. NOT. WORK. You hear me Pinterest? Take those pins down, it’s a scam. That Sharpie wipes right off and after you’ve carefully crafted the perfect calligraphy freehand–you’re bound to wind up in a pissed off tizzy.
So now I had all these beautiful white ceramic pieces and what was I supposed to do with them? What any logical desperate person with extra ceramic dishes would do–go out and buy glaze and have them fired. I was determined to make this project work, come hell or high water. And actually–the high water came because we were plagued with a hurricane.
These mugs were the end result, and I have to say–I’m loving them. It was worth it to scramble around the art store mid-Hurricane Sandy to create these lovely treasures. Before you ask, yes that is my own handwriting (gross) and unfortunately, I didn’t have a stencil or pattern–I just sort of went to town freehand. They were a birthday present and went over incredibly well. With all the extra glaze I will be doing many-a-Christmas present…watch out friends, you could be the next recipient.
Speaking of crafts, I’m headed to DC in December for a girl’s weekend full of all things Christmas baking and crafting–any recommendations?
