Okay people, I’m the first to admit I live under a total rock when it comes to movies. Dane will consistently reference one, use a movie line or ask about something that is coming out and I will give him back the blank stare of death. I have no clue what he’s talking about. I know, ’tis sad. In any case, we’ve been on a total movie bender recently and I figured I should share the scoop, right?
First up, The Judge. Oh-My-Lanta. Friends, grab the tissues. This movie gave me ALL THE FEELS. For the record, I actually hate that saying, but it’s true when it comes to this one. Happy, sad, frustrated–you name it. When a son, a successful attorney played by Robert Downey Jr., comes back to town for his mother’s funeral he comes to terms with his estranged father, siblings and hometown past.
I don’t want to give too much away, but I promise, you don’t want to miss this one! It got mixed bag reviews by critics, but this movie patron is giving it two thumbs up!
Next: The Theory of Everything.
Admittedly, I had never even heard of this movie. Not shocking, I know, but when we sat down to watch it, I had my iPad in one hand fully anticipating Pinning during the entire movie. WRONG! This movie is captivating from the very beginning. Chronicling the lives of Jane and Stephen Hawking, you will be so emotionally invested in their lives, you will hope the movie reel moves faster! Not kidding. I love their love and dedication to life. I will warn you–it’s a bit long. Carve out a rainy afternoon for this one–and don’t forget the snacks!
Sidenote: What’s your favorite movie snack?
Finally: The Best of Me
Yes, I know–a Nicholas Sparks movie. I was having a particularly rough week and Dane surprised me. This movie shares the same general plot line as the rest of Sparks’ movies, but it totally sucked us both in. I bawled my eyes out, but in the best way possible if that makes sense?
I’m getting all teary again just thinking of it, so here’s the website synopsis:
In
the spring of 1984, high school students Amanda Collier and Dawson Cole
fell deeply, irrevocably in love. Though they were from opposite sides
of the tracks, their love for one another seemed to defy the realities
of life in the small town of Oriental, North Carolina. But as the summer
of their senior year came to a close, unforeseen events would tear the
young couple apart, setting them on radically divergent paths.

of life in the small town of Oriental, North Carolina. But as the summer
of their senior year came to a close, unforeseen events would tear the
young couple apart, setting them on radically divergent paths.
Now,
twenty-five years later, Amanda and Dawson are summoned back to
Oriental for the funeral of Tuck Hostetler, the mentor who once gave
shelter to their high school romance. Neither has lived the life they
imagined . . . and neither can forget the passionate first love that
forever changed their lives. As Amanda and Dawson carry out the
instructions Tuck left behind for them, they realize that everything
they thought they knew—about Tuck, about themselves, and about the
dreams they held dear—was not as it seemed. Forced to confront painful
memories, the two former lovers will discover undeniable truths about
the choices they have made. And in the course of a single, searing
weekend, they will ask of the living, and the dead: Can love truly rewrite the past?
