After I shared the Dog Friendly Guide To Hawaii, I decided I wanted to get more specific and share the dog friendly guide to Honolulu and Oahu. Dane and I live on Oahu, so it’s the island we are most familiar with in terms of restaurants, beaches, hikes and beyond. Today I’m sharing all the adventures you can get into with your pet in my dog friendly guide to Honolulu. Leash up and let’s get going…!
Dog-Friendly Guide To Honolulu
I get a fair amount of e-mails from people moving to Hawaii with pets, so it’s only natural to share a guide for those who have just moved here and are wondering — where can I take my dog? Today I’m sharing the dog friendly guide to Honolulu (and surrounding Oahu areas!) and I’m covering where to hike, where to go to the beach and most importantly…where to eat

Dog Friendly Restaurants In Honolulu
The nicest part about living in Hawaii is that the weather is nice most days, 365 days per year. That said, many restaurants utilize outdoor space for tables and additional seating, which means there are ample opportunities for pets to tag along. Please keep in mind that state health codes require animals to stay outside of eating establishments, and even though an eatery may have outdoor eating space, it doesn’t always mean they welcome dogs. Don’t forget to be a thoughtful pet parent and bring your own dish for water!
Here are some of our favorites in Honolulu that welcome dogs:
Town – Chef Ed Kenney is truly one of the best on the island and his food makes my mouth water. Thankfully, one of his restaurants, Town, has outdoor space and welcomes dogs.
Greek Marina – Located in Koko Head Marina area, this outdoor space is perfect for gobbling up some fried eggplant (double yum) and enjoying time with your dog. There are quite a few outdoor tables and people know to bring their pet, so if yours doesn’t like other dogs, maybe avoid this spot.
Bevy – Located in Kakaaako, this is a great spot to come enjoy for an outdoor happy hour. Check their Instagram for specials!
Morning Brew – Another spot in Kakaako, Morning Brew has delicious coffee and a couple outdoor seats. I love coming here to work with one of my trusty companions — no way in heck I’d get anything done with both of them!
The Nook – A boozy bistro in the heart of Honolulu, The Nook offers ingredient-focused dishes and most importantly — a seat at the table for your four-legged friend 🙂
Dog Friendly Hikes On Oahu
Like the beaches, there are quite a few hikes that welcome dogs on Oahu. That said, it’s important to be a responsible pet parent and keep your dogs leashed, bring lots of water and bags to clean up after them. A few of our favorite pet-friendly hikes include:
Pu’u O Mahuka Heiau State Monument
Dog Friendly Guide To Oahu
To note, if you’re able to venture just a bit outside Honolulu to Oahu’s North Shore, you’ll find quite a few dog-friendly beaches and eating establishments. Our favorite dog-friendly restaurants in Haleiwa include Uncle Bo’s, Haleiwa Bowls, Kono’s, Teddy’s Bigger Burgers (their patio is awesome!), Cholo’s, Coffee Gallery, Waialua Bakery, Beet Box Cafe and Storto’s Sandwiches.
Dog friendly beaches on the North Shore that we love include Kawela Bay and Laie Beach. If you are heading to the beach, don’t miss 7 Beach Essentials For Your Dogs!
