12 Lick Mat Recipes For Dogs

Pets · February 2, 2024 · Leave a Comment

Considering using a lick mat for your puppy or dog? Here are 12 lick mat recipes for dogs that are a delicious treat.

When we first got a lick mat for Judy, I was eager to try different combinations that might keep it interesting for her. My dogs would eat everything I have in the kitchen if I let them, but it’s so important to only give dogs foods that are safe for them. Lick mats are innovative feeding tools designed to turn snack time into a delightful and mentally stimulating experience for dogs, but it’s not as simple as just smashing some yogurt on there and putting in the freezer…at least not at my house! If you’ve been searching for ways to top lick mats at your house, here are some of the best lick mat recipes for dogs.

LICK MAT RECIPES

12 Lick Mat Recipes For Dogs

When I was getting started, I considered some of the major groups of foods that were dog safe in my kitchen. You’ll see a lot of yogurt (I use plain Greek yogurt from Costco) and peanut butter. It’s so important to either 1. make homemade peanut butter or 2. Make sure there is absolutely no xylitol in the peanut butter you give your dogs. Some of our favorites are linked in the widget below.

Lick Mat Recipes

One thing to keep in mind with all of theses is after spreading all the ingredients on the lick mats, I put them in the freezer for at least 3 hours to make sure they get nice and frozen before serving them.

Peanut Butter

Ingredients: 1/2 cup unsalted peanut butter, 1/4 cup plain yogurt

Mix the ingredients and spread it on the lick mat.

Banana

Ingredients: 1 ripe banana, 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon coconut oil.

Mash the banana, mix with yogurt and coconut oil, and spread on the lick mat.

Berries

Ingredients: 1/2 cup mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries), 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt.

Mash the berries, mix with yogurt, and spread on the lick mat.

Chicken

Ingredients: 1/2 cup boiled chicken (shredded), 1/4 cup pumpkin puree, 1 tablespoon plain Greek yogurt.

Mix the ingredients and spread on the lick mat.

Applesauce

Ingredients: 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce, 2 tablespoons peanut butter.

Mix applesauce with peanut butter and spread on the lick mat.

Carrots

Ingredients: 1/2 cup finely grated carrots, 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt.

Mix ingredients and spread on the lick mat.

Cheese

Ingredients: 1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese, 2 tablespoons peanut butter.

Mix the cheese and spread on the lick mat.

Tuna

Ingredients: 1/2 cup canned no-salt-added tuna in water (drained), 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt.

Mix tuna with yogurt and spread on the lick mat. **this recipe should be used sparingly as giving tuna to your dog frequently isn’t recommended**

Sweet Potato

Ingredients: 1/2 cup cooked sweet potato (mashed), 2 tablespoons peanut butter.

Mix sweet potato with peanut butter and spread on the lick mat.

Yogurt

Ingredients: 1/4 cup coconut oil (melted), 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt.

Mix ingredients and spread on the lick mat.

Salmon

Ingredients: 1/2 cup cooked salmon (flaked), 1/4 cup pumpkin puree, 1 tablespoon plain Greek yogurt.

Mix ingredients and spread on the lick mat.

Rice

Ingredients: 1/2 cup cooked rice, 2 tablespoons unsweetened applesauce.

Mix rice (you may have to mash it a bit) with applesauce and spread on the lick mat.
