HY’S Hawaii: A Datenight Recap | Oahu, Hawaii

Hawaii, Oahu, Travel · September 3, 2015 · 9 Comments

For our anniversary, Dane made reservations for us at a dinner location that he was adamant about keeping top secret! I am aggressive passionate when it comes to guessing surprises, so all week I kept throwing out restaurant names. At one point, he had me convinced we were going to one place that he loves that I’m not really a fan of.
When we finally pulled up to HY’S on Sunday night, I was shocked. In reality, this option was never on my radar! A staple in Waikiki for more than 35 years, the first thing I noticed was how intricately designed the restaurant was. Hand-cardved wood, a live cooking station and waiters donning tuxes – I couldn’t wait to check out the menu!
We started by splitting an arugula and prosciutto salad that was so good. It was only seasoned with fresh olive oil and cracked pepper, yet was packed with flavor.
When at a steakhouse, you order steak, no? So I ordered the filet and Dane ordered the ribeye. Both were freaking amazing! I love when steak is cooked so well it practically melts in your mouth. Both entrees were served with garlic mashed potatoes and pan-fried vegetables.
And because we are both a sucker for dessert, we got two! I ordered the coconut créme brûlée and Dane had the homemade mango sorbet. Créme brûlée is my absolute favorite dessert and the added coconut flavor only made it better. If I could eat this stuff morning, noon and night, I would.
Dane’s sorbet was also delicious. I had a couple bites, but it didn’t hold a candle to my brûlée.
And because it was our anniversary, the chef brought out this adorable little cheesecake with fresh strawberry preserves. When you are brought a third dessert, you do not just leave it there! We dove right in and it was so tasty 🙂
HY’S was the perfect anniversary treat and if you’re looking for a nice place to go for a special occasion, I would highly recommend it!
