Have you ever had a Pimm’s Cup? It definitely ranks up near the top in best refreshing cocktails for me. Bonus points are awarded, because they are so easy to make!
Pimm’s is a fruity, gin-based spirit and was originally marketed in the 1900s as a health drink, sort of like we would think of kombucha today. Crazy, right?
In any case, Pimm’s Cup is probably the top cocktail made with Pimm’s and if you’ve never heard of it, stick around! You’re going to want to make one ASAP…
Pimm’s Cup Cocktail
But, what exactly is Pimm’s Cup? Truth be told, there is a lot of history surrounding Pimm’s – officially known as Pimm’s No. 1 Cup. For starters, it originated in the UK and is popular during warm weather seasons. Though truth be told, I would probably drink a Pimm’s any time of the year!
What is Pimm’s Cup?
We fell in love with Pimm’s Cup on our first trip to Africa. I would describe it best as a mix of sweet, fruity, and sparkling. The best part is that you can really get creative with the garnishes, creating an extra pretty cocktail. For the purposes of this post (and in our day-to-day life) I just threw in the juiced lime I used, but we typically like cucumbers, strawberries, and mint leaves.
Pimm’s Cup Recipe
To make a refreshing Pimm’s at home, you will need:
1/2 cup Pimm’s No. 1
juice from half lemon or lime (I prefer lime, but lemon is traditional!)
1/2 cup ginger ale
tumbler with ice
fresh fruit, cucumber, and mint for garnish
1. In a shaker, combine Pimm’s and the lemon or lime juice. Shake vigorously.
2. Pour into a tumbler with ice.
3. Add ginger ale, and stir.
4. Garnish and enjoy!
It’s worth noting that my version of a Pimm’s cup is a little bit of a twist on the original, which calls for sugar cubes and ginger beer. For an everyday drink, the ginger ale is a good substitute!
