Have you been seeing the viral cottage cheese ice cream all over social media? I had to give it a try and today I’m sharing the official recipe!
I have to be honest, when I first saw all the people on TikTok making cottage cheese ice cream, I was a little horrified. It seemed like another way for a product to have a second life…think cauliflower’s resurgence a few years back. But the more I saw it pop up on my feeds, the more interested I got. What struck me was how much protein was in the ice cream and the people saying it was creamy like cheesecake.
I am willing to try just about anything in the name of a sweet treat, so I made a very basic cheese cake ice cream that can be modified based on your likes or dislikes. Buckle in, this is about to get exciting.
Cottage Cheese Ice Cream That Actually Tastes Good
Like I said, I kept seeing cottage cheese ice cream online and I was intrigued. I saw a lot of people adding fruit to their ice cream, though and I have to be honest…that was going to be a no from me. I don’t want fruit in my dessert. On the side? Fine. Mixed in? Pass.
But I knew that if I could get the base flavor down, then anything else would just be gravy (so to speak), so I began brainstorming what I could use to get a creamy, delicious base and…I think this is it. For everyone online saying this tastes like cheesecake – they are right. For everyone saying the consistency is super creamy, but just a little more “icy” than regular ice cream…that is also right.
I love that it’s not overly sweet, but I do think that if you really want more sweet flavor, adding maple syrup would be a good thing. Personally, I wouldn’t add an artificial sweetener, because I don’t think the flavor profiles would mix well. Another thing worth noting…In 1.5 cups of this cottage cheese ice cream, there are 39g of protein!
Now…on with the cottage cheese ice cream recipe. To make this recipe, you will need:
1.5 cups cottage cheese (I used Daisy Low Fat)
1 tsp. cinnamon
About 2 tbsp. Oat Haus Granola Butter (I used Cookie Dough flavor but they’re all so dang good.)

1. Put all your ingredients in your food processor and blend together.
2. If you are going to add any sweetener, fold that into your mix.
3. Pour the mixture into a freezer safe bowl (I used a glass bowl with a lid) and freeze for 3 hours.
4. Scoop and enjoy!
I’ve seen people add in all sorts of fruit, graham crackers, chocolate drizzle, caramel drizzle, sprinkles and even candy like Reese’s cups. I don’t think you can go wrong, because it really does have a cheesecake-like taste. Now, that said – if you do not like cheesecake, there’s no getting around that…you probably won’t like this. Just being honest 🙂
