Okay, I know I say this all the time, but this Kailua Beach photo diary might be my favorite yet….eek! The colors are just so beautiful and capture all that I love about aerial photography in Hawaii….turquoise ocean, white sandy beach, and lots of colorful sunbathers dotting the sand. Bird’s eye view is the best Hawaii view!

Kailua Beach Park

Kailua Beach Park, located on the east side of Oahu, is consistently rated one of the top beaches in Hawaii and the world. Why? Clear water, fine sand, and water sports galore.

Even though there is ample parking, it’s a really popular place, so getting a parking spot can be tricky. I recommend going early! You can also make a full day of it, because this beach park offers showers.

Kailua Beach

The water temperature at Kailua Beach is always warm enough to get in (I appreciate this!), and it’s a popular coastline for windsurfing and kitesurfing. 

Kailua Beach Park hours are 5AM – 10PM. 

Hawaii Beach Photos

If you’re planning a trip to the east side of Oahu, definitely put Kailua Beach on your radar, and make a full day of the surrounding area. Kalapawai Cafe is a great lunch spot (order the pulled pork sandwich and a brown butter cookie!), and there quite a few boutiques that line the streets for some good local shopping. Some of my favorites include Lauren Roth Boutique and Bikini Bird. 

If you’ve made it as far as Kailua, it’s worth popping down to Lanikai Beach (you can see the Mokulua islets below)! Lanikai is probably my favorite place to enjoy sunrise on Oahu.
